Fish in the morning, hunt bears in the evening…
The Sawtooths have a wide variety and healthy population of both color phase bears and species of fish. In the spring when we hunt bears the snow is just melting off the mountainsides, the lakes are thawing out and the bears and the fish are both actively working to replenish their calories and fat reserves. The bear population is just coming out of hibernation and is desperate for calories and this is why hunting them over bait is the most effective method for a successful hunt. However, we do offer spot and stalk hunts for the individual who is looking for more of a challenge.
Bears are more active later in the day so hunting is most effective from 3:00 pm to dark. That being said you have the first half of the day to hunt wolves or sleep in and relax while also having the option to fish the nearby Payette river, soak in the hot springs or hike one of our many trails.
We base our hunts out of our main base camp where you will be staying in a cabin with excellent beds, a wood stove, and home-cooked meals.
This is all included in the $2,700 price. If you would like to ride horses into one of our alpine lakes (weather allowing) for some incredible fishing we can do that for an extra $250 a horse/per person.
