This year with my kids wanting to spend more time in the field either behind a crossbow or rifle I played a bit with putting my old gopro into service to record their hunts. I've used a gopro for years for all sorts of activities, but it's not at all useful for the down the barrel view. I quickly found the Tactacam 5.0 and decided to start with the standard model instead of the Wide, knowing that I wanted to see impacts if possible. In the first 10 minutes after the battery had charged I knew I'd made the right choice.
I first mounted the camera to sit alongside the scope on the crossbow. My concerns were that it would be in the way of cocking the bow or too easy to bump out of alignment. No such issues. During the first sit with the Tactacam set up I learned just how easy it is to use in the real world. Deer comes in to range. Press the button. A few minutes later I was able to replay my shot, confirming a good hit, and shaping the plan for the rest of the morning.
The app functionality and pairing is excellent, even in the field away from cell service. Now that I've seen the video quality and ease of use, a 5.0 wide is next up, and will be replacing the old gopro to capture the rest of the action.
