FAQ

Guide Injury Insurance for Verified Guides/Outfitters

What is this all about? Why is Guidefitter offering injury insurance?
For several years, all Verified Guide/Outfitter “Insiders” with Guidefitter have enjoyed access to exclusive discounts on outdoor gear from Guidefitter’s network of brand partners - manufacturers of hunting, fishing & other outdoor gear - all in one convenient location at Guidefitter.com or through our mobile applications. Now, Guidefitter is adding another free benefit for all Verified Hunting or Fishing Guide/Outfitter Insiders – Guide Injury insurance - to help bring peace of mind to professional guides who often face the risk of accidental injury while guiding hunting or fishing trips. Guide Injury Insurance is being provided through a partnership with Spot Insurance, Inc.
Is the coverage provided by Guidefitter? Who is Spot?
Guide Injury Insurance is not being directly provided or serviced by Guidefitter (we aren’t an insurance company). Instead, to bring you this exclusive benefit, Guidefitter has partnered with a company based in Austin, Texas called Spot Insurance, Inc., who provides injury insurance for many types of people with active lifestyles through partnerships with organizations like the National Ski Patrol, USA BMX, and now through Guidefitter. Spot is not a health insurance company, but rather they work with organizations like Guidefitter to design custom injury insurance policies to fit the unique needs of their outdoor-oriented members and then Spot coordinates with underlying insurance companies, like Sirius America Insurance Company, who underwrites the insurance and services any claims. Technically, Guidefitter is the master insurance policy holder for Guide Injury Insurance, and Guidefitter’s members who are verified professional hunting or fishing guides or outfitters are then eligible for coverage under Guidefitter’s master policy.
Who is covered?
Any active Verified Hunting or Fishing Guide/Outfitter Insider member of Guidefitter, is covered. This benefit is currently limited to hunting and fishing guides only, but Guidefitter and Spot are working together now to bring similar insurance benefits to other guiding professionals as soon as possible.
What is covered?
Covered accidental injuries that occur while you’re guiding hunting or fishing trips.
When are you covered?
You’re covered anytime you’re guiding. It must be a trip in which you are being compensated for these activities.Injury Insurance is included with your Guidefitter Insider membership. That means you’re covered for one year from the day that you are successfully verified by Guidefitter as a Guide/Outfitter Insider. You must maintain an active Insider account to be covered. Not maintaining your verified Insider status with Guidefitter will terminate your coverage.
Where am I covered?
Anywhere in the United States.
What does it cost?
There is no cost to you for this Guidefitter membership benefit, and the benefit is currently only available to active Verified Guide/Outfitter Insiders with Guidefitter. Guidefitter covers all insurance premium costs for eligible members.
What medical costs are covered under the policy?
Costs from your doctor-recommended treatment plan are covered up to $5,000 for any covered physical injury as long as it is carried out by a licensed medical professional. Your treatment plan could include diagnostic scans, hospital stays, ER visits, surgeries, and emergency transportation. Basically, anything your licensed medical professional recommends that you need to recover from your accident and considers appropriate treatment for your condition. Unfortunately, your spiritual healer’s plan is on you.
Is there a deductible?
Nope, there is no deductible.
Is this health insurance? Is Spot a health insurance company?
No, Spot is not health insurance. The policy offered by Spot, underwritten by Sirius America Insurance Company, provides reimbursement of your medical bills incurred for injuries stemming from covered accidents. As much as we’d like to help you with your stomach flu (drink plenty of fluids!), that’s just not our thing. General illness and sickness are not included in your policy coverage.
Do I have to use a specific doctor in an approved network?
With Guide Injury Insurance, you can see any licensed medical professional for medical treatment! No need to stress about trying to figure out the maze of in- and out-of-network hospitals and doctors.
Do I need to show proof of insurance at the time of treatment?
Nope! You do not need to present the policy information provided to you by Spot. Just head to a licensed physician for treatment and when you receive your first bill (must be incurred within 90 days from the date of the accident) simply log into your Spot account to start a claim.
How does Guide Injury Insurance work if I have health insurance?
If you have existing health insurance, Guide Injury Insurance helps bridge the gap so that you aren’t drowning in medical bills not covered by your primary insurance after you suffer a sudden injury. In the US, the average individual health insurance deductible is over $1,500. Many people have deductibles well over $5,000*. Meaning that if you get hurt, you could potentially pay at least that amount out-of-pocket. Your Guide Injury Insurance policy can cover your deductible, co-pays, and any other out-of-pocket expenses you’re faced with.

Account & Claims

How do I access my Spot account?
You should have received a link to access your account in your Spot confirmation email. If this is your first time logging in, please use this link to set up your account login credentials. Your account is linked to the email provided when you purchased your pass. If you have already set up your password, you can access your account here.
How do I file a claim?
First, and importantly, do not contact Guidefitter to file a claim. Guidefitter is not responsible for, and is unable to, process any claims for Guide Injury Insurance.Instead, please log in to your Spot account and follow the steps to file a claim right from your account dashboard. As you fill out the claims form, be as thorough and detailed as possible. The less information the claims team has to hunt down, the speedier the process. As soon as you’ve submitted all of your bills, the claims team will verify your accident is covered. Once verified, you will either receive a check for your total out-of-pocket costs associated with your accident or Spot will pay your provider directly.
What information is required to submit a claim?
Spot will need you to confirm your identity, provide some basic information about your accident, your bills, and voila—your claim has been filed! If you have any questions about the claims process, email Spot Insurance (and not Guidefitter) at claims@getspot.com.
Who backs Spot’s claims?
Claims submitted under your Guide Injury Insurance policy are backed by policies underwritten by Sirius America Insurance Company.
How does the process of filing a claim work? When can I expect to hear a decision about my claim?
The decision process is dependent on the amount of time it takes the claims team to receive all the necessary information needed to process and review your claim. If they are able to validate the claims data with the healthcare providers that attended to you in the hospital or emergency center (or at your licensed physician’s office), with your current health insurance provider (if applicable), and with yourself, it will greatly speed up the process. The more relevant information you provide, the quicker the review.
