Join us in the pursuit of the king of the gamebirds and the court jester the American woodcock in Northern Lower Peninsula of Michigan.
We offer fully-guided day hunts in the Grayling, Michigan area. Our dogs or yours, we can take up to 3-4 hunters in a party but the preference is 2 per guide. Additional guides can be arranged as needed.
Fall in Northern Michigan is an amazing time to be in the woods pursuing grouse and woodcock. Experiencing that thunderous flush of a grouse or acrobatic flight of a woodcock is second to none. Excellent dog works will provide you with ample opportunities at both grouse and woodcock.
Hunts will be in a variety of cover types so expect moderate to tough walking covering up to 10 miles a day. Several covers will be visited during your hunt last about 45 to 90 minutes, over our four dogs. If you have your own dog(s) we encourage you to bring them.
Hunts are either half day or full day. Drinks, snacks and a tailgate lunch is provided on both hunts and this is how we end the half day hunt(s).
Small game license with free woodcock stamp and HIP. Recommend free sharp-tail grouse stamp as well, just incase we decided to look for those in the UP. Blaze orange clothing to include a hat, shirt or vest. Recommend ear and eye protection. Good boots, recommend packing both muck and quality boots with above ankle support.
Bring the shotgun you are most comfortable. Recommended gauges are 28 thru 12 gauge with shot size of 7.5 to 9's. Chokes should be fairly open. If using a pump or semi-automatic they must be plugged.
