Where's the rockfish capital of the world? Right here in beautiful Halifax County, NC in the waters of the Roanoke River in Weldon where the largest population of striped bass on the east coast spawn. We begin fishing in early April on the lower Roanoke and follow the Albemarle sound population of striped bass to their spawning grounds in the Roanoke River during May. This provides you with fantastic fishing with possible catches of over 100 per day when the fish are congregated in Weldon.
You will be fishing out of a john boat and 2 of our boats will fish 4 people comfortably. Other smaller john boats are available for smaller parties. We fish with live shad. All tackle is provided although you are welcome to bring your own. Only barbless single hooks are allowed on the Roanoke River during spawning season to keep fish mortality rates low. Jeff Wolgemuth has been catching striped bass on this river for over 35 years and, as the saying goes, knows this river like the back of his hand
