Kenai peninsula
You will travel to Homer via Anchorage and then be transported to the hunt area ,by means of the vessel you will stay aboard.
Hunting license and tags may be purchased in Homer and there are a number of hotels available for accommodation should your hunt schedule require it.
Our black bear hunts take place in the outer coastal areas of the Kenai peninsula. This area has many deep reaching bays which provide a great deal of coast line to be hunted.
Accessing these areas via boat allows us the mobility we need to hunt new country each day if needed.
During the spring season ,many of the black bears are found in the low lying tidal flats and south facing hillsides where the first spring forage appears. Thus usually being fairly easy to spot and relatively easy to access to put on a stalk.
You will be staying aboard a 43' delta and shuttled to shore via a powered zodiac raft.
All guided hunts are conducted 2 on 1.
On the fully guided hunts bait stations can be utilized if desired ,or needed,to ensure a greater chance of successfully securing your trophy bear. Our average size for guided bear hunts has been around 6ft. Success rates are very high. Size and success depend largely on how selective a hunter wants to be.
The long days of May and early June allow a more leisurely approach to the hunt and provide some opportunity for saltwater fishing for pacific halibut and rock fish.
All meals and accommodations aboard the boat are included for the duration of your hunt.
Not included are any accommodations or meals while in town before or after the hunt. License, tags, or gratuities for guides/crew.
A minimum of 2 hunters is required for a booking unless other arrangements are made.
Transporter Role*
When it comes to Alaska DIY hunting, there are rules and regulations which we honorably follow. When booking with us, we want to make sure that you are 100% made aware of our role as a transporter in your hunt. Please review the rules and regulations below PRIOR TO BOOKING WITH US! If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to us at any time. First and foremost, we want to make sure you fully understand that this Alaska DIY hunt is a "Self Guided" hunt. What this means is that you, as the hunter, are responsible for all hunting techniques yourself. This also means that, you as the hunter, get to set the pace of your hunt. We tailor our hunts to this style of hunting to provide avid, knowledgeable hunters the opportunity to experience Alaska at their own pace and at an affordable rate. Your success is 100% up to you and your preparedness and the effort you put in.
The most common question we get asked is if we operate as a guide. To be clear, prior to booking, on the DIY hunts we are NOT guides. We operate as TRANSPORTERS only. What does this mean for your Alaska DIY hunt? This means that we legally CANNOT conduct the following:
Guide you in the process of hunting- this means we cannot TELL YOU where to HUNT
Provide maps of any kind for targeting game- please research the area prior to your hunt
Assist removal of your game from the field, other than by providing the transportation to/from shore
Assist in the skinning, de-boning, or butchering of your meat once on board
Assist in the care of meat while on/off board
Provide ANY hunting equipment necessary to hunt big game, remove, or clean game- we do provide fishing gear.
Live aboard 43' Delta, accommodates 4 hunters.
