Chasing Bulls in September in the Wyoming Wilderness we need to have many different arrows in the Quiver. The temperature can vary greatly when you are starting from base camp at 8600 feet and can end up at 10,000. Today's modern clothing has allowed us to hunt farther and stay out longer no matter the forecast. I have started a morning assent at 33 deg in the pouring rain sweat all the way to the top and had to refresh my base and mid-layers standing in new snow falling. Having modern gear like zippered bottoms changeable without boot removal, merino products, treated down, and DWR treatable breathable rain gear all have changed the environment.

Optics
Unfortunately when it comes to optics, spend the money!
I use horses and mules to haul the heavy loads but when that's not an option having a day pack which has a frame and tray saves one trip in and back out with a load.
