Finding Places To Link From

May 1st, 2009 by Evan

Getting links is an imporant part in ranking your site in the tops of the search engines. The first step to ‘beating’ out a competitor for a specific keyword is to get more links. But not just any links. Start with the links they have already gotten. To do this, go to Google and type in the following to see what links a competitor has.

For this example, we will see what links are coming in to fishseahawk.com. Here’s what you need to type:

link:http://www.fishseahawk.com/

Copy and paste the above into Google’s search and you will see exactly what links are coming into that particular website. While the site may have many more links coming in, these are the ones that Google finds valuable. If you want to rank highly in Google, then you need to know which links Google deems valuable.

As you can see, there are only two links that Google finds valuable. The first being a link from the sites Contact page. It is safe to say that you will not be able to get a link from a competitors site, so move onto the next. The next is doable. Check out the video link below to see what I mean.

So if you want to ‘beat out’ a competitor in the rankings, the easiest thing you can do right now is to get the exact same links that they have.

Go to Google. Type in the keywords you want to rank for. Check their links and go out and get those links!

Need more links? Do a related search, maybe a guide in a different area. See what links they have, those are valuable too!

UPDATE: The link was approved in a day or so. It will take some time for Google to find the link, but every link helps your rankings! You can click the image to see the live link.
